Your store should be visually interesting to attract the attention of potential customers. For my sleepwear store, my creative sister designed the checkout counter to look like a bed. This unique fixture was the main focal point of the store, and its design gained us free publicity from local media and became a neighborhood must-see attraction.
The look was accomplished inexpensively by sewing a bedspread and bedskirt to fit over the front of our counter and drilling an antique headboard and footboard onto each end. Small pillows were added for the finishing touch. People brought friends in all the time to see the store with the cute "check-out bed." And of course every time someone walks through the door for any reason it's an opportunity for a sale.
No advertising could have brought in as much traffic as our check-out counter did. Do you have a star attraction designed into your store?
